live and learn

I am very sad to say that my weekend is over. This weekend was packed full of day trips and late nights out. I was lucky to go spend a few hours 45 min outside of Copenhagen in the quiet town of Elsinore. We wondered the cobblestone walking streets of the town and stopped for a little lunch and of course we had to stop at a deliscious bakery for some Danish danishes called wienerbrød

After our short visit to Elsinore we drove to the island where Kronborg Castle sits. Kronborg Castle was built in 1584 by King Fredrick the 2nd mainly to collect taxes from the boats sailing through the water between Sweden and Denmark. At the point where the castle sits, it is only about 4 miles away from Sweden by water. This castle is most famous for being the setting of Shakespeare's Hamlet which was created about a Danish oral traditon told during the 12th century about the Danish Prince Amleth (notice Shakespeare took the "h" from the end and put it in the beginning). The castle was beautiful, seeing that it was the first castle I had ever visited i was very amazed at the architecture and how I was actually walking the halls that Kings walked hundreds and hundreds of years ago. It was indeed an experience for me!

After an all day long trip my housing had a group pub crawl! About 50 American students raided some very interesting sections of town! we first went downtown Copenhagen to an Irish pub with live music that was very fun! From there we walked to the meat packing district an odd smaller bar with an interesting crowd. Finally, we walked through the red light district of Copenhagen, yes the red light district. Just the walk itself was, well, interesting to say the least. We ended at a club/ lounge-y bar with lots of dancing and music.
